Wolves up season record to 13-2

Watford City’s varsity boys basketball team notched another pair of wins this past week as the Wolves edged the Bowman Bulldogs 44-40 last Tuesday evening before knocking off the Heart River Cougars 49-34. With the two wins, Watford City improved its season record to 13-2.
This week, the Wolves will host Parshall on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in a key District 15 contest.
Watford City 44, Bowman 40
After building a 25-15 halftime lead, it looked like Watford City was going to pick up an easy win over the Bowman Bulldogs last Tuesday evening. But Bowman turned the tables in the second half giving Watford City everything that it could handle as the Wolves edged out a 44-40 win.
Watford City, behind the hot hand of Trey Jacobson, who would lead the Wolves in scoring with 16 points, held a slim 11-10 first quarter lead before blowing the game wide open in the second quarter on the back of a 14-5 scoring run.
While the Wolves would hold a comfortable 25-15 halftime lead, Bowman answered quickly in the third quarter as the Bulldogs cut Watford City’s lead to just six points, 30-24, going into the fourth quarter. And Bowman kept the pressure up in the final eight minutes of play as the Bulldogs cut the Wolves’ lead to just a single point on two occasions before Watford City put the game away in the final minute.
Joining Jacobson in double figure scoring for the Wolves was Shawn Fulwider with 10 points. Also scoring for Watford City was Nick Liebel with nine points, Reid Johnson with four points, Dillon Langerud with three points and Tyler Flatland with two points.

Watford City 49, Heart River 34
Trey Jacobson and Tyler Flatland provided the one-two scoring punch for Watford City as the Wolves rolled over the Heart River Cougars 49-34 last Friday evening.
Jacobson had a game high 16 points while Flatland netted 10 points in the easy Watford City win.
The Wolves set the tone of the game early in the first quarter as Watford City jumped out to a 22-12 lead before holding a 33-19 halftime advantage.
While the Cougars would outscore Watford City 7-6 in the third quarter, the Wolves would take the final stanza 10-8.
Also scoring for Watford City in the game was Reid Johnson with nine points, Nick Liebel with five points and Dillon Langerud with four points.
