Wolves grapple to success at Bismarck Rotary

Everyone is so proud of how well our wrestlers did this past weekend at the Bismarck Rotary! We we had multiple placers in the JV and Varsity divisions. This tournament is known to be harder than state.
For Varsity placings, one of our team captains, senior Brier Arnegard came in seeded 4th at 152lbs. Ran into a multiple time Montana state champ in the semi finals and came up short. He battled back strong on day 2 to finish 3rd with a record of 5-1.
Our heavy weight wrestler, sophomore Sam Inman, came in unseeded. He created a big upset in round one. Getting a revenge match win over the number 3 ranked wrestler North Dakota. In his quarter final match he got caught and pinned in a scramble by another ranked wrestler from Fargo Sheyenne. He came back on day two finishing 7th with a record of 5-2.
For our Girls Varsity, Cora Sorenson, a 7th grader, battles some of the best girls in her 100 lb division despite coming in light to the smallest weight class. She came up short in round 2, but made a great come back winning her next 4 matches and getting into the placing rounds. She is the first girl we’ve had to place at the Bismarck Rotary making 7th place with a record of 5-2!
For our Junior Varsity decision, we had 5 placers! Gunner Wahus had a great few rounds and placed 3rd in the 114lbs. Malakai Wendlandt came close to winning but was the runner up in his 121lbs class. Deegan Skaggs was the runner up at 145lbs, and Hayden Pastrano was 3rd for the 172lbs class. Finally, Wyatt Boekelman was the Champion of the 139lb class!
The team is improved so much throughout this year, and we can’t wait to see how much more improvement we get with the next tournaments coming up this weekend as we head to the Rugby Tournament!
