Watford City bounced back nicely from a disappointing Homecoming loss, but still lost 27-18 at No. 5 Valley City on Friday night. The Wolves outgained the Hi-Liners 380 total yards to 333. Watford City had 20 first downs to Valley City’s 15 and won the time of possession battle as well. The game had zero punts and just one turnover. “I was pleased with our offense for the most part,” said Watford City head coach, Jim Dooley. “We still squandered a few opportunities for points, which we can’t do.”
Both offenses had three total possessions in the first half. Valley City got the ball first and scored on a 15-yard touchdown run by Caden Amann, which capped off a 7-play, 65-yard drive with 8:35 left in the first quarter. Watford City responded with a longer and more time-consuming drive. The Wolves ran the ball 11 times in a row to move the football from their own 20-yard line to the Valley City 24-yard line. On the twelfth play of the drive, Paco Baldenegro threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Trysten DeVries. The drive covered 80 yards in 7:42 and got Watford City within a single point. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
