Wolves cruise to easy first round win in Region 8 basketball action

Watford City is just two wins away from advancing to the State Class B Girls Basketball Tournament as the Wolves crushed the Ray Jays 63-36 in opening round action of the Region 8 Tournament on Monday evening.
Watford City will now take on the New Town Eagles in Tuesday’s semifinals with the winner of that game advancing to the Region 8 championship game on Thursday, March 10 at the Well at Williston State College.

Watford City had three players score in double figures as the Wolves, the No. 1 seed from District 15, had little trouble defeating the Ray Jays, the No. 4 seed from District 16, 63-36, in opening day action of the Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament on Monday evening.
The Wolves jumped out to a 16-8 first quarter lead before leading the Jays 25-14 at halftime. And then Watford City slammed the door shut on the Rays as the Wolves outgunned the Jays 20-8 to coast to the easy win.
Dani Bates paced the Wolves in scoring with 12 points, while Brianna Allex and Jayme Johnson joined her in double figures with 10 points each in the win.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was McKayla Haugeberg with eight points, Charlie Hystad with seven points, Alexis Sanford with six points, Amanda Mogen with four points, while Marti Quale, Ashli Foli and Madison Brown ended the game with two points each.
