The Oilers are officially on a four-ame winning streak. The girls have outscored their last four opponents 19-8 building momentum for the final 7 weeks of the regular season.
The girls started the streak last Tuesday, against Bismarck Legacy. Eastyn Wold had the hot stick all night starting 3 minutes into the game. Bismarck would fumble a puck off the face off, Eastyn beat the defenders down the ice before blistering a wrister, bar down, to give the Oilers the early lead. Bismarck answered back quickly, so Eastyn answered them back.
Bria Samuelson fed the puck up to Emree Wold, Emree bobbled it slightly and had to chase it down into the zone, Emree found her sister wide open in the slot and she finished with a no doubt one-timer. Eastyn would net her hat trick and take the lead back early in the second on the power play.
Lauren Melland found her wide open in the middle of the ice, the Bismarck defense let her walk too far and she beat the goalie glove side again. Lauren Melland got the lead back for the Oilers converting a pass from Kaylor Knutson and beating the goalie off the post to make the score 4-3 WC.
Eastyn would extend the lead picking up a puck off the draw and slowly skated the puck down and into the slot before beating the goalie. Eastyn would finish the Oiler scoring late in the second period. Bria and Emree beat Legacy with the cycle and fed Eastyn in the slot for her 5th goal.
Sierra Blegen would have a fantastic third period to secure the 6-4 win, she had 37 saves in the game.
Friday night home games against Richland are always marked on the calendar as a big game. The Oilers came out a little flat against the Rangers finishing the first period down 1-0. That didn’t last long into the second.
The teams were skating 4 on 4, Emree made a pass to Eastyn who had a chance on a breakaway, didn’t get a shot off but Emree was right there to knock in the rebound. Eastyn got the Oilers the lead with an end to end rush starting by picking off a Ranger pass, beating 3 defenders and deking the goalie. Aiden Olson would get herself on the scoresheet winning the faceoff to Berkley Wirtz, Wirtz put a hard shot on goal, Aiden went to the net and knocked in the rebound.
Aiden was not done. On the power play, Maddy Greenhaw had the puck on the blue line, got the puck over to Avery Pelton, Pelton put a shot on goal, the goalie made the save, but the puck ended up behind her and Aiden was there to tap it in. Emree scored next, picking up a puck in the defensive zone, beating 2 defenders and the goalie.
Eastyn scored the final goal of the game picking up a loose puck beating 3 defenders before putting it away in the top right corner. Blegen was solid between the pipes, making 28 saves.
Senior night in Watford is always special. This year the Oilers have 1 Senior, Kaylor Knutson. This year the Oilers took on the Langdon Blades. As usual the Oilers would give up the first goal and have to battle back.
On senior night Kaylor would get an assist to Eastyn. Knut, as she’s known on the team, carried the puck down the ice, got it to Eastyn, who made one move and hit the top corner. It took 6 seconds for Eastyn and Emree to get the lead. Emree won the draw to Eastyn, Eastyn gained the zone and beat the goalie glove side again.
Greenhaw to Pelton, Pelton to Emree, Emree glove side twisted wrister is the combination to get the game winner. 3-2 was the final, Blegen had 17 saves in the win.
Bottineau/Rugby was the final game of the weekend on Sunday. After a 0-0 first, the Oilers got the offense going with a couple of hustle goals.
Bria Samuelson beat the defenders to the zone, picked up a loose puck behind the net, attempted a pass to the slot but it was deflected in by the defender. Berkley would add to the lead picking up the rebound of her own shot and snuck it in on the short side. Knutson continued her point streak setting up Emree for a goal after some excellent puck movement by the Oilers. Eastyn would put in the final goal.
She would pick up a rebound from Emree’s shot, wheeled into the slot and beat the goalie. Blegen battled in net saving 26 shots.
