Watford City made a trip to Des Lacs Tuesday, Dec. 20, to take on the defending Region 3 Champions, Des Lacs-Burlington (DL-B) Lakers. The Wolves struggled in this one as they failed to reach double digits in any single quarter. Meanwhile, Des Lacs-Burlington was on fire for the whole game, shooting 55 percent from the field.
“Most of it was DL-B playing very well,” said Watford City head coach, David Gumke. “They ran their sets to perfection. I felt like we were chasing them all night. They put a lot of pressure on us defensively, causing many turnovers.” The Wolves finished the game with 26 turnovers that the Lakers turned into 29 points. The one stat category the Wolves won was blocked shots by a margin of four to two.
“We definitely did not play well, but DL-B was the cause of most of it,” said Coach Gumke. “We did not shoot the ball very well and had far less offensive possessions because of our individual mistakes and their tough, disciplined defense. DL-B is a very fundamental team in all aspects of the game, which is what you would expect out of a senior-heavy team.”
