The Pee Wee A Oilers played in Williston Friday night against likely the best team in the state. The Oilers had a game plan to keep the Flyers away from the net. This would surrender some ability to play offense, but it would keep the Flyers away from Cole Shettler in goal.
The first period was all Flyers according to the shot counter, outshooting the Oilers 15-0 but they didn’t score, because of the good defense, the bulk of the shots were long and easily saved by Shettler.
The Oilers got the scoring started in the 2nd. Colton Fitzgerald created a turnover with his hard pressure on the puck, he found a streaking Jaxon Junker coming through the slot. Junker made one move and put a backhand shot on goal and it found a way to the back. The Flyers scored 3 following that to end the period 3-1 Williston.
The Oilers kept fighting, scoring 1 to Williston’s 4 in the third period. Fitzgerald would net his second point of the game on the power play, a few nice passes gave Colton a wrap around chance that the goalie saved but it bounced high in the air above the net and came down across the line for the goal. Shettler was busy in net for the Oilers making 27 saves.
