Oilers Pee Wee A Hockey Team has mixed weekend
Jarrett Wold
Guest Columinst
The boys traveled to Dickinson last Friday night to take on the number one team in the West. The first game back after Christmas is always hard and it took the boys 2 periods to get their game together.
In the meantime, Cole Shettler held down the fort for the Oilers. The Oilers were outshot 16-2 in the first, but ended the period with a 2-0 lead. Colton Fitzgerald got the Oilers on the board, picking up a pass from Kolby Wold and beat the goalie with a twisted wrister, glove side. Kolby would extend the lead following a face off. The puck landed on his stick during the scrum, and he let a low hard one fly at the net that beat the goalie five hole.
The second period was all Dickinson, netting 4 out of 20 more shots on goal. The third period was a tight one, the goalie saves were even, and the Oilers had a chance to get within one. Kolby had the only Oiler goal in the third, picking up a pass from Kale Davis on the power play and beating the goalie five hole. That made the score 4-3, but some missed opportunities and some breakdowns on defense put the game out of reach. 7-3 final, Shettler was outstanding in net with 35 saves.
