The girls traveled to Hazen for a league game against the other unbeaten team in the league last Saturday afternoon. The Oilers struggled to shake off the rust of a few weeks off for the holidays. They struggled with defensive assignments and passing.
After an early goal from Hazen, the Oilers answered. Maddy Greenhaw missed a shot wide of the net but Eastyn Wold was there to pick it up, she made a quick move before feeding Bria Samuelson on the back door to tie the game. Berkley Wirtz got the lead for the Oilers with an excellent effort. She put the pressure on the Hazen defender, who coughed up the puck right to Wirtz for the breakaway goal. Wirtz would net her second of the game in the second to tie it up, beating the goalie stick side again on a rush. 3-3 after three.
Hazen would get the lead again early in the third. Eastyn picked up a loose puck in the defensive zone, worked through most of the Hazen team before blistering a shot past the goalie’s glove to tie it at 4.
