Dickinson Trinity 36, Watford City 31
Watford City dropped their first Region 4 game of the season, a 36-31 decision to the visiting Dickinson Trinity Titans. The Wolves got off to a great start with 14 first quarter points, including four 3-pointers. The 14-4 lead would be the largest lead for either team for the duration of what turned out to be a low-scoring game. Dickinson Trinity began the second quarter on an 11-3 run and the game would remain close for the rest of the contest.
“We struggled offensively down the stretch,” said Watford City head coach, Tom Dwyer. “We had some turnovers, missed some shots, and did not do a good job of executing our offense and creating good shots. We also gave up some offensive rebounds in the fourth that they converted to points. Dickinson Trinity deserves some credit for that.”
After the Titans tied up the game 21-21, Watford City bounced back to take a 27-24 lead into the pivotal fourth quarter. Bella Kovash, Elly McAvoy, and Annabel Scheeler all connected on 3-point attempts as Dickinson Trinity scored the first nine points in the final quarter. Scheeler and McAvoy made 3-of-6 free throws to seal the Region win for the Titans. Bailey Mattson led the Wolves with seven rebounds, while Annabelle Bohn had four assists.
“After every game, we need to take a look at what we need to improve on and how we can learn from our mistakes,” said Coach Dwyer. “Hopefully we take this game to heart and show up each practice with the right attitudes, ready to improve more than any other team.”
