Shiloh Christian beat Watford City 63-34 in Bismarck on Friday night in both teams’ second Region 4 game of the season. Shiloh scored the first 12 points of the game while the Wolves struggled to find an offensive rhythm early. “It definitely wasn’t how we wanted to start the game,” said Watford City head coach, Tom Dwyer. “We missed some shots we could have made and turned it over and gave them a couple easy baskets.”
An 8-5 Wolves run got them within seven points at 23-16 in the second quarter, but that was the closest Watford City would get for the rest of the game. Shiloh pushed the lead to 15 by halftime and then exploded for 25 more points in the third quarter. “Shiloh was aggressive and did a good job on defense,” said Coach Dwyer. Watford City was held to 17 percent field goal shooting, including 13 percent from three-point distance. One bright spot for the Wolves was in the rebounding category. Watford City outrebounded Shiloh 40-37, leading to a 10-7 advantage in second chance points. Adi Schaff led the Wolves with eight rebounds and Bailey Mattson had seven. Annabelle Bohn had a strong defensive effort, highlighted by five steals.
“We obviously didn’t play very well,” said Coach Dwyer. “We know we can beat anyone if we play to our potential. It’s a matter of starting it in practice and making sure we do it the next chance we get.” The Wolves are now 7-7 overall, and 0-2 in Region 4. Three of the next four Wolves’ games (at Hazen, vs. Beulah and vs. Standing Rock) will count toward the region standings.
