The Oilers were on the road this weekend in Hazen for the annual State Jamboree, 4 league games over the weekend vs various teams.
The weekend started Friday evening vs Crosby. The Comets came out firing, scoring on their first shot less than 2 minutes into the game. Eastyn Wold needed 7 seconds to get the tying goal, picking up a faceoff win from Emree, splitting the defense and beating the goalie stick side. Crosby would get the next goal but Eastyn would answer quickly again. She picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, beating one defender before going bar down on the goalie’s stick side. The Comets would continue scoring, get 2 more in the next 3 minutes to lead 4-2. Eastyn and Emree would team up on another faceoff with 16 seconds left. Emree won the draw to Eastyn, no one pressured her, so she walked in and sniped the goalie high glove side for her hat trick.
The Oilers got their game going after the rough first period only allowing 6 more shots on goal for the rest of the game. Avery Pelton scored the tying goal, getting a nice pass from Bria Samuelson before beating the goalie glove side. Maddy Greenhaw executed a great regroup, she got her head up the ice, passed to Eastyn on the wide side to set up the go-ahead goal. Eastyn made a few girls miss before beating the goalie low glove side for the game winner. Aiden Olson scored the final goal in the 6-4 win.
The Comets couldn’t get the puck from her, she carried the puck until she saw an opening to the net, deked the goalie and tapped it in. Sierra Blegen had 14 saves.
The first game on Saturday morning was against Richland and like Friday, the girls didn’t have a good start. The Oilers found themselves down 2-0 less than 5 minutes into the game and that score held through the period. Eastyn was able to cut the lead to 1, getting a great pass from Emree setting her up with a breakaway, beating the goalie stick side. The Rangers would score again to end the period 3-1.
The third started the same as the first, the Rangers scored 3 goals in the first 5 minutes. The Oilers didn’t quit, Emree gave the Oilers some life with 10 minutes left. She picked up a puck from Eastyn, skated right by the defense and beat the goalie stick side. Emree returned the favor 5 minutes later, giving Eastyn a drop pass on a rush, leaving a shooting lane for Eastyn to beat the goalie low stick side. Eastyn would cut the lead to 2 with 2 minutes left on the power play, Kaylor Knutson and Aiden Olson created some confusion with the puck movement before finding Eastyn who stepped in front of the net and sniped the goalie high glove side for her hat trick. But the clock would run out on the comeback, 6-4 final, Blegen with 22 saves.
Next up for the girls was Bottineau/Rugby. Again, the Border Hawks scored first, 6 minutes into the game. The Oilers tied the game 2 minutes later executing a great d-zone draw, Emree won it to Maddy, Maddy sped behind the net before getting the puck back to Emree, who powered past the defenders for the low stick side, breakaway goal.
The Oilers would get the lead on a power play goal from Eastyn, she knocked in a rebound from Kaylor’s shot, who got the pass from Lyrik Olson. Emree scored the final goal of the game late in the second period after a nice touch pass from Berkley Wirtz, she drove down the ice and roofed a shot past the goalie’s right ear. Blegen made 31 saves.
The girls finished the weekend against Langdon Sunday morning. For the first time in 4 games the Oilers scored first with a blast by Lyrik Olson from the point, she was assisted by Knutson and Eastyn.
Eastyn scored the game winner early in the second period converting a faceoff loss into a bar down breakaway goal. The Oilers would allow a goal late but hung on to win 2-1, Blegen recorded 20 saves.
