The Roughrider Fund announced the second round of 2024 Enhancement Grant Awards. The fund was established in 2004 by Watford City “to support projects that develop, promote, and enhance the welfare of the community by increasing and enhancing community amenities and growing the local economy,” according to the Roughrider Fund website.
The Roughrider Fund receives funding from a 1.5 cent city sales tax and is managed, in part, by the Roughrider Fund Committee, which is appointed by the city council. They make recommendations to the City Council for the distribution of the accumulated funds.
Some of the recipients include the McKenzie Health Medical Complex, the Rough Rider Center and the Watford City Municipal Airport.
The press release announcing the second round of recipients reads: Each year, the fund supports organizations that create vibrancy in our community through events and programming in and around Watford City. This year, the fund committed $100,000 to its Community Enhancement Grant program to support vibrancy efforts.”
