As the doors to Watford City Middle School officially closed on the 2022-2023 school year, construction began on a large-scale project to modernize and remodel some major components of the building.
According to McKenzie County Public School District No. 1 (MCPSD1) Superintendent Steve Holen, “The former space was designed in 1984 as a high school science environment with lab spaces and smaller offices/storage areas that did not convert well to a middle school environment and the learning styles of the middle school level.”
When the new high school opened and the former high school exclusively became a middle school, there were many challenges the faculty faced in making the existing building suitable for younger students and their learning needs.
