A heated, half-hour discussion developed among McKenzie County officials at a commission meeting last week, stemming from one commissioner’s unplanned statement and motions.
In an non-agendized item allowed by Chairman Douglas Nordby, Commissioner Kathy Skarda read aloud her 1,100-word statement of questions of monetary procedures and perceived conflicts she said residents have posed to her, also asking for a forensic audit from 2014 to date.
“A forensic audit would go a long way in the healing process,” she said.
Auditor/Treasurer Linda Svihovec condemned her statement while Commissioner Gene Veeder admonished Skarda for not providing information regarding her statement beforehand. Commissioner Vawnita Best mentioned mediation for commissioners.
