North Dakota oil production sees steady increase, gas capture remains strong

North Dakota’s oil and gas industry continues to show positive momentum, according to the latest production figures released by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR).
McKenzie County Statistics
McKenzie County continues to be a North Dakota oil and gas powerhouse. In September 2024, the county produced 12,206,653 barrels of oil, accounting for a whopping 33.9 percent of the state's total oil production. These statistics show that McKenzie County's oil production in September was nearly 13 times the state average per well, with each well producing 2,137 barrels. This significantly outperforms the state average of 187 barrels per well. As the DMR reports indicate McKenzie County oil and gas production continues to be crucial to North Dakota's economy.
Statewide Statistics
In September 2024, the state produced nearly 1.2 million barrels of oil per day, a 1.2 percent increase over the previous month. This marks a 9 percent increase above the revenue forecast and is primarily driven by increased production from the Three Forks Pool.
