For over 40 years The Giving Tree has been a holiday institution for the people of McKenzie County. The Giving Tree is a charity organized by the Eagles Auxiliary to ensure area children have presents for Christmas.
Past President of the Eagles Auxiliary, Claudia Fegert explained, “The purpose of the Giving Tree is to supply Christmas to kids and families that may not be able to have one.”
Fegert explained that the charity was initially run by Social Services, but as the program grew, they no longer had the time or space to keep the program running. That is when the Eagles Auxiliary stepped in and took over the program.
Fegert said, “It takes a lot of hours and people to pull it off. Last year over 178 kids were featured on The Giving Tree.”
She added that the volunteers love the program and consider it a privilege to be a part of it. “It is something we all really enjoy doing.”
“A lot of kids are asking for clothes toys, and art supplies this year. So with the communities help, I am sure we will be able to make that happen,” says Danielle Brothers, Eagles Auxiliary past president.
