On Friday, April 4, local law enforcement issued a public alert at approximately 9:15 p.m. warning citizens that entrance to the Bison Run Development was shut down. At approximately 11:15 p.m. law enforcement lifted its public alert after apprehending a suspect. On Monday, April 7, the Watford City Police Department provided an update on the incident as follows.

The Watford City Police Department and the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call at 8:00 p.m. on the 2700 block of 2nd Street NE. Upon arrival law enforcement made contact with the female victim outside of her residence.
During the investigation, the suspect was identified as 41 year-old Brandon Alan Hunsucker of Watford City. Hunsucker allegedly assaulted the victim inside their home while a juvenile child was present. During the assault Hunsucker produced a handgun and was waving it around toward the victim. The victim and child were able to escape the home and call 911.

Officers and Deputies were able to contain Hunsucker to his home and attempted to call him out for a peaceful resolution. During this time the access point to the Bison Run/Dakota Ridge development was closed. Officers were able to make contact with Hunsucker via his phone and attempted to talk him out of his home after making numerous comments of self harm. He exited his home unarmed and was taken into custody after approximately 3 hours of communicating with law enforcement.

Hunsucker was charged with two Class C Felonies for terrorizing - adult victim and preventing arrest; A Class A Misdemeanor for physical obstruction of a government function; and a Class B Misdemeanor for domestic violence - bodily injury.
His bond was set at $15,000 and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19, 2025.
