District 26 Legislators: Week five of 2025 session

District 26 Legislators: Week five of 2025 session

Jeremy Olson
District 26 Representative

Week five of the legislative session has concluded, with numerous bills progressing through their respective committees and being debated on the floors of the House and Senate. Some bills were approved, while others were not. Those that were approved will now move to the other chamber for further hearings, amendments, and voting. Any bill that passes a second time will be sent to the Governor’s desk for signature or veto.
Legislators in the Finance and Taxation Committees examined several bills concerning property tax legislation, one of the most deliberated topics preceding the 69th Legislative Session. On Thursday evening, the House Finance and Taxation Committee passed HB 1376 out of committee with amendments and a Do Pass recommendation. It is anticipated to reach the House floor for a vote during the week of this publication. If approved, it will then proceed to the Senate to undergo the same process. HB 1376 is expected to serve as the primary vehicle for property tax reform and relief this legislative session.
This week, the Capitol in Bismarck welcomed many young visitors from District 26. Medical and technology students from the Bakken Skills Center in Watford City, along with FFA students from Killdeer, demonstrated their skills to legislators. We were pleased to engage with them this week and explain the legislative process. Next week, we look forward to hosting additional students from District 26.
On Saturday, the Watford City American Legion Post 29 held its monthly “Coffee with a Vet” event. Senator Patten and Representatives Olson and Maki attended to address constituent concerns and discuss current and upcoming bills of interest. Over a dozen citizens participated, and the conversation proved to be very engaging. It was an excellent opportunity to interact with District 26 constituents. We encourage you to attend and participate in the next “Coffee with a Vet” event.
We want your input. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
