The familiar yellow buses of the McKenzie County Public School District No. 1 (MCPSD1) are a vital part of the daily routine for hundreds of students. But behind the scenes, there’s been a recent leadership change. Stacy Segneri, who has overseen the district’s transportation department for 13 years, is passing the torch to Brittaney Churchill.
“The handover process has been terrific,” Segneri says. “Brittaney has always stepped up when needed and has a deep understanding of MCPSD transportation.” Churchill, who has worked as a driver for Harlow’s Bus Service, the company contracted by MCPSD1, for the past four years, brings a combination of experience and enthusiasm to the role. “I truly enjoy driving bus and working with the kids,” Churchill says. “Applying for this position was a leap of faith, but I’m excited for the challenge.”
One of the biggest challenges facing the MCPSD1 Transportation Department is the vast geographical area it covers. “Ensuring the safety and efficiency of student transportation across over 1,400 square miles is a top priority,” says Segneri. “We have a great team of drivers who are trained on the different road conditions throughout the county.” Churchill acknowledges this challenge but is confident. “We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing,” she says. “We have a great team, and they’re all prepared to handle anything the roads throw at us.”
Segneri leaves behind a legacy of innovation and growth. During her tenure, she implemented several key programs, including Z-Passes for student tracking and the Bus Bulletin communication system for parents.” Stacy has established a strong foundation for the department,” says Churchill. “I plan on following her example and keeping an open mind to areas for improvement.”
